The mayors of the provinces of Larnaca and Famagusta are breathing heavily on the issue of the Lympia Landfill and the fees at which municipalities and communities of the two provinces are charged. On the occasion of the publication of the respective charges concerning the Limassol Landfill, the mayors of the two provinces held an extraordinary meeting yesterday, reviewing the situation and taking important decisions in principle.

As stated in the newspaper FILELEFTHEROS, the mayors of Sotira, George Takkas and Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis, at the moment the tonnage of garbage per ton for each municipality and community in the province of Famagusta has reached 65-66 euros, while the corresponding municipal and municipal charges for communities is 17 euros per ton.

According to the mayor of Sotira, the provinces of Larnaca and Famagusta are currently paying the most expensive waste management fees for all of Cyprus, "and not just the most expensive, but the much more expensive than any other province". This is, he added, a damaging situation, a hike, which wrongs the residents of the two provinces and leads their Local Government Authorities, with mathematical precision in the financial bankruptcy. "Something has to be done at last," Mr Takkas said.

For his part, the mayor of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis, said that based on the management prices of garbage for the province of Limassol, it turns out that the corresponding cost for the provinces of Larnaca and Famagusta is almost fourfold. "Until now," he continued, "the two provinces have acted as miserable guinea pigs to learn how to manage Cyprus like garbage." He added that "it is now clear that there is unequal treatment and the citizens of the two provinces justifiably feel that they are second- and third-class citizens." "It simply came to our notice then. The knot has long reached the scallop and the only thing left is to take drastic measures. " As Mr. Pyrillis added, a new meeting will follow soon, with the aim of implementing these drastic measures.

Suggestions

According to exclusive information among the presentations submitted to the table of yesterday's meeting, which will be launched after the competent minister, Socrates Hasikos, is also informed:

* To repay all the debts of the municipalities to the Lympia Landfill based on the charges that apply today. Coordinated, however, the Municipalities of Lefkara, Aradippou, Dromolaxia, Athienou, Larnaca, Livadia, Deryneia, Paralimni and Sotira as well as all the communities in the two provinces, will soon pay the landfill and the same will happen to Lympia, based on fees. their point of view logically.

* If the Lympia Landfill refuses to receive the garbage from the garbage trucks of the municipalities and communities, then countermeasures will be studied, including the release of the garbage at the entrance of the Landfill, so that the factory can decide what to do and how to manage it.

* If the State does not assume its responsibilities and redress the injustice to the detriment of the various provinces, other measures will be considered to escalate the reactions of the Local Government to the two provinces.

They are going bankrupt

Larnaca Mayor Andreas Louroutziatis pointed out that state sponsorship cannot be lower than the expenses of the Municipalities of Larnaca and Famagusta for the management of their garbage dumps. At yesterday's meeting, he clarified that the Local Authorities of the two provinces will now proceed unanimously and with sympathy on the issue concerning the costing of the Lympia Landfill. "We reiterate once again, in recent years, how unfair and punitive it is for the two provinces, and above all we mean the citizens, to pay the most expensive wage fees all over Cyprus, especially in these difficult economic times," he said. mayor of Larnaca.

Concluding, the mayor of Larnaca pointed out that the Ministry of Interior does not disagree with what the municipalities of the two provinces are complaining about and the implementation of yesterday's clear decisions remains, through measures that will be taken.

For his part, the mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos, pointed out that the municipalities of the two provinces had a lot of patience on the issue and the measures they are now launching should have been normally promoted since last year.

The mayors of the two provinces to whom we asked whether the dynamic measures they are promoting are aimed at cheaper garbage fees in the two provinces for 2015, answered categorically: No, they are aiming at cheaper garbage fees in the two provinces from the second half of 2014!
