The assessment that the construction of the Ayia Napa marina will have a positive impact on the development of Sotira was expressed by the Mayor Georgios Takkas, adding that interest has already been expressed by foreign investors.
As Mr. Takkas stated in KYPE, “the investment of the Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris, for the construction of the Ayia Napa marina, is expected to positively affect Sotira as well. The businessmen who will flood the area due to the construction of the marina and the change that will take place in the design of the specific area of Ayia Napa, are expected to affect the area of Sotira as well ".
He added that "the investment of 220 million euros that will be made for the marina and the change in the zones around the marina, will positively help Sotira".

Answering a relevant question, Mr. Takkas said that "foreign investors from Russia, Lebanon and even China have already expressed interest in developing the Sotira area".
The first major investment in the area noted, "it has taken shape and it is a luxury 5-star hotel, which will be built very close to the marina of Ayia Napa and north of the beach of the same name. For the investment, which will amount to approximately 50 million euros, an application for an Urban Planning permit has already been submitted, while it is the largest private investment in the hotel industry in the province of Famagusta ".
At the same time, he continued "important are the developments in the field of tourism development in Sotira since two other proposals for the construction of hotel units in the coastal area of Agia Thekla are underway, as there are serious proposals from foreign investors."
According to Mr. Takkas, “both the marina of Ayia Napa, as well as the renovation of the Sotiras coastal front that the Municipality has proceeded with, have contributed to the vertical increase of the interest of entrepreneurs for investment in the area. Nevertheless, the Municipality of Sotiras has set clauses for entrepreneurs, which concern the construction of only luxury five-star hotels, the recruitment of staff by Sotira but also the respect for the natural environment and the Special Protection Zone of the Beach which is located from 2008 included in a Natura 2000 regime ”.
He also said that the contracts for the design and renovation of the entire coastal front of Sotira, which is expected to be completed in 12 months, will be signed soon. This will be the beginning of the basis for the development of the Municipality of Sotira ”he concluded.
