The Tourism and Industrial Society of Famagusta issued a scathing announcement on the issue of the Sun City hotel unit in Agia Thekla, in which it refers to the non-existence of Urban Planning for the province of Famagusta and also that the whole case arose under the guise of environmental concerns.

The announcement of TEVEA is the same:

"Regarding the recent decision of the Council of Ministers for a well-known hotel unit in the area of Agia Thekla, the Tourist Commercial Industrial Company of Famagusta expresses its strong concern and concern for the effects that such decisions have on the development of the coastal area of Agia Thekla as well as on attracting future investments in the wider area of Famagusta.

Under the guise of environmental concerns which lack basis and substance and despite the fact that there were commitments from the competent government services, an entire region and province is essentially condemned to recession and withering, with a negative impact on the local society, economy and well-being of the residents of the region, confirming once again our concerns about the marginalization of Famagusta District compared to the rest of Cyprus.

We firmly believe that the absence for years of urban planning for the entire Famagusta Province with clearly structured development strategies and policies, deprives our Province of gaining the momentum it deserves, with the known negative effects already visible on the horizon.

It is now clear that the only way to reverse the existing disadvantageous situation caused by the policies of two measures and two stations, is the Municipalities, the Communities, the parliamentary parties, the MPs of Famagusta, the business organizations and all the residents of the Province Famagusta, in a spirit of absolute sympathy and cooperation, to defend the interests of our Province, with the sole aim of the wider common good of the citizens and our country."
