Today, the newspaper FILELEFTHEROS had a tribute to the program of free feeding of the children of the All-Day Third Elementary Savior from the foundation "Wisdom for children".

"In the gloom and frustration of the situation in our country, there are actions and activities that prove the greatness of humanity, offering generous help to our fellow human beings who are in real need. In fact, when help is provided to needy children, it becomes even more important and gives birth to hope for better days.

For the past five years, the Sophia Foundation has been working exclusively with children in Kenya to give real hope and perspective to people dying of starvation and disease. One of the biggest achievements of the foundation is the food programs that take place in areas with the greatest needs where there are sick and malnourished children who did not go to school in Kenya.

As the founder of "Sofia" Marina Siakola told "FILELEFTHEROS", with the economic crisis and what our country is experiencing, they decided that they should offer help to our children in Cyprus, without of course leaving the children in Kenya who are already being helped. The foundation proceeded to create a kitchen in an all-day school in the community of Sotiras, where the students' food is prepared every afternoon.

The remarkable and pioneering in this program is the fact that the food is prepared by the students' own mothers.

"It simply came to our notice then. That is, directly without intermediaries, to operate a kitchen for cooking at school, so that children have at least one plate of food for lunch. We operate purposefully and with suggestions from those in charge. The director of the Primary Education Department, Elpidoforos Neokleous, pointed out to us that in the XNUMXrd all-day primary school Sotiras, they were in urgent need of lunch. "This is the largest all-day school," said Ms. Siakola.

He added that the institution decided to take over the school with the necessary condition that the money will not be provided to the ministry or another body. In this school until last June the students' lunch came from catering.

At the end of last school year, 90% of parents could not afford to pay for alimony.

The foundation immediately paid an amount of € 4.000 in order to complete last year without the children being deprived of lunch. For the new year, the volunteers and the school principal Fotis Stavrou worked during the summer, so that a space for a kitchen could be built. The kitchen is built and fully equipped with all the necessary equipment. At the same time, we secured the basic raw materials for the preparation of food from sensitized food companies and individuals.

"Since last Monday, the program of the institution" Cook and Offer "started operating normally, through which about 120 students are fed daily."
