The CABS (Committee Against Bird Slaughtering) organization expresses gratitude to the Cyprus Police for their support and cooperation on the occasion of the incident that took place on Thursday, September 14, between activists of the organization and a Greek Cypriot in a rural area in Paralimni.

According to a press release from the organization, "a man who used a spear in the trees of his perch, shot seven times against a group of four international volunteers of the CABS organization who were conducting an investigation to locate and report to the police illegal means of trapping birds".

Abigail Cooper, a 21-year-old British volunteer, said "the man went to his hut to get his gun and fired twice into the air."

According to the press release, "the police intervened 50 minutes after the attack and located the perpetrator, who as it turned out, was an ELAM candidate in the last parliamentary elections. "A few minutes later, four members of ELAM visited the group to talk to the volunteers."

Alexander Heyd, General Manager of CABS, said that "ELAM MP Linos Papagiannis expressed his concern for our security."

It added that "the CABS organization" calls on the Minister of Justice and Public Order to increase the operational capacity of the Poaching Squad, so that its members are available on a 24-hour basis in trapping areas of Larnaca and Famagusta provinces to prevent illegal activities and protect volunteers ".

The organization addresses the same invitation "to the Minister of Interior and the Thera Service", while the General Director of CABS noted that "we have reported 21 trapping locations to the police, in which 7 arrests were made. The organization wishes to express its gratitude to the Cyprus Police for the professional support and cooperation ", the press release concludes.
