In no case is there a question of a ban on free movement at the Deryneia roadblock, Stelios Stylianou, the Deputy Spokesman of the Police, told KYPE.

Mr. Stylianou was answering a question as to whether the police officers at the Deryneia roadblock have different instructions from those who staff the other roadblocks, since according to information, during the passage today from the free areas to the occupied areas, identities were checked.

"In no case is there a question of a ban on free movement. This is a given ", he stressed.

What is being done, he said, for whoever passes, is being checked for identification purposes, to see if it really is a Greek Cypriot.

The data is not recorded either, he assured.

Asked what happens if he is a foreigner, he replied that in such a case, the question may arise whether the foreigner has, for example, a residence permit in the Republic of Cyprus.

This should be done in all roadblocks, it has just faded a bit, he said, responding to a comment that this is not done in other roadblocks.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Deryneia, when asked to comment on the information, said that what he wants is to call on the people to comply with the instructions of the Police.
