Η Ithaca has emerged as a covid free destination with a 0% positivity. Almost 80% of the residents are vaccinated and there are new appointments every day.
"We were lucky enough for the Ministry of Civil Protection to accept a horizontal vaccination here, in Ithaca from March and we managed to do everything well, throughout the summer" the mayor of the island, in the First Program with Katerina Sereti and Dionysis Chatzimichalis, Dionysis Stanitsas.
"Except in August, when there were about 150-200 boats in the port of the island every day, when we had about 20-22 cases, beyond that we continue to do well and the citizens are vaccinated daily," said Mr. Stanitsas.
The Health Center and the municipal doctor's office are on the front line for the battle of vaccines
The percentage of vaccinated people on the island reaches 75% -80% and new appointments are added daily to the Health Center. How they managed to almost reach the wall of immunity, as the mayor of Ithaca admitted, was not an easy task, but the fact that it is a small society helped.
"We are 3000 inhabitants, we know each other, we have the opportunity to talk about it up close. "The Health Center here and the municipal social clinic that we have set up for 5 years are doing a lot of actions related to vaccination and little by little people were convinced, even those who did not want to get the vaccine", noted Mr. Stanitsas.
