An insignificant cause seems to have led to the death of a 70-year-old. After 40 days of hospitalization in a coma, the unfortunate 70-year-old ended up in the AHEPA hospital. The elderly man had been punched in the head by a 40-year-old boxer after an argument they had over their dogs.

The two men argued for their dogs, on September 18, shortly after 21:00, in Polichni. Specifically, the 40-year-old allegedly lost control because the elderly man's pet did not have a leash. Verbal confrontation and swearing soon led to physical violence.

The 40-year-old, after using offensive descriptions against the elderly man, hit him hard on the head, as a result of which the latter lost contact with the environment and fell to the ground.

According to the CT scan, the severity of the blow was obvious due to the diffuse bleeding that the elderly man had in his brain. He was admitted to AHEPA hospital and underwent brain surgery. However, he showed no signs of substantial improvement, remained in a coma and ended up on Thursday.

The perpetrator of the beating and father of two children had been released on restrictive terms, while through his testimony, he tried to show remorse.

What the witnesses said
The first witness is said to have testified, according to the protothema: "Suddenly we heard a commotion from the opposite side of the road. Then I went out on the balcony and saw two men cursing, one around 40 and an elderly man around 70. From what I understood was that they were cursing for their dogs. They both had big dogs that were out for a walk at the time. The reason the quarrel started was, I guess, because the old man's dog was not wearing a leash. From there the commotion started because they both started cursing for this reason. At one point and while their verbal quarrel was over, the old man told the other that he was "bored" or something similar. Then, while the young man began to walk away, when he heard this insult, he returned to ask for the floor. At the same time, the old man started and left while the other followed him. "When they approached a short distance, the grandfather's dog came in between them and started barking."

"He hit him on the back of the head, with the result that the old man fell unconscious on the ground. "Then he tried to seduce him by shouting: 'My Lady, what have I done and where am I now involved?'" Claimed the second witness who was in front of the horrific incident.

"I had no intention of harming him"
In his testimony, the accused gives his own version of the incident of violence: "I had no intention of harming or throwing him down, no intention of injuring the person. All I can think about is whether the man fainted from the tension and because he was shouting loudly and his heart was pounding and for that reason he lost consciousness. Since the Saturday I am being held, every day I ask God to keep him well, to get him out of the hospital healthy and strong and to be able to see him and apologize to him and find out what happened, why he fell. "All I can think about is the health of the man and my little boys, who are nine months old and the old man is only three and a half years old and my wife."
