10. Pierogi - Poland

The food of the countries of Eastern Europe has begun to attract the attention of the whole planet more and more and how can this not happen with wonderful food, such as pierogi. In fact, the origin of the dish is unknown, as it is a dish of various countries in the wider region of Central and Eastern Europe, however, especially in Europe and America, the version of Polish pirogues is the most popular.

Pierogi is a type of dough, similar to tortellini, that is usually boiled first and then either baked or fried in butter with onions most of the time. Traditionally they are suitable for various fillings such as potato, sauerkraut, meat, cheese or even fruit. Pierogi are served in a variety of forms and with different flavors, savory, sweet or spicy and are considered the national dish of Poland. The Polish word pierogi is plural, as the singular is rarely used, perhaps because no one can eat only one.

9. Sushi - Japan

Few people in the world have ever heard of or tasted sushi. The common ingredient in all different types of sushi is sushi. The variety that exists in sushi lies in the different fillings and sauces in which we can dip it, the spices that it has and its preparation. The same ingredients can be combined in either a traditional or a more modern way, creating a completely different end result.

The growing popularity of sushi worldwide has led to many different varieties that can be found in North America or Europe, but rarely in Japan. All of these different forms of sushi have been created to match western lifestyles and western cuisine. Be careful, however, if you want to try sushi, avoid those that contain pufferfish fugu, as it can cause severe poisoning if not prepared properly. Think that the emperor of Japan is not allowed to eat this fish, because it is considered too risky for his office!

Spring rolls are a general term used to describe all the rolled rolls in western cuisine that are served as appetizers. The eastern and southeastern versions of spring rolls have different names depending on their origin, the way they are cooked, the type of wrapping and their filling. Spring rolls can be sweet or spicy, baked or fried. Spicy spring rolls usually include vegetables, while baked spring rolls are often larger and tastier. Also, depending on the restaurant where you will taste them, you can find different types of fillings, such as meat and cheese with vegetables, while they are used in many restaurants, not necessarily Chinese, as an appetizer or side dish.

7.Burito - America / Mexico

Burritos are not very popular in Europe, but they are one of the most famous dishes in North and Central America. The burritos consist of a wheat tortilla that includes various fillings. Tortilla is usually lightly baked or steamed to soften it and make it easier to wrap. In Mexico, the filling is most often beans or meat, however, in America there are many different combinations of what the burrito will include.

Ingredients such as Mexican rice, beans, lettuce, salsa, meat, avocado, cheese and sour cream are some of what a burrito may include, and even the size varies, as American burritos appear to be much larger than Mexican burritos. Unfortunately, in Europe there are few restaurants where you can taste authentic Mexican cuisine, however, with a little good research you can enjoy real Mexican dishes.

6. Fish and Chips - England

The so-called fish and chips are the most widespread and popular dish in Great Britain, but it is also a common food in the fast food restaurants of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

This dish consists of fish well fried in a lot of oil, served with french fries and garnished with salt and vinegar. Nowadays, this food is the absolute must for those who visit England, where you will find it in many shops even at dawn, after frantic fun served in newspaper clippings!

5. Croissants - France

The croissant does not need many recommendations. It is that soft, fluffy, buttery dough that we have all enjoyed either for breakfast or for lunch or for dinner with various fillings, but also plain. You can try it sweet and savory, however, no matter how you eat it, it is definitely very tasty. In mother France who raised it, they usually enjoy it plain, without filling and without extra butter.

In America, various sweet and savory fillings make the croissant a very common food, while in Germany and Italy you can try it in an incredible variety of flavors, filled with chocolate or praline as a dessert that accompanies coffee or as a dessert. Here in Greece, you will find it as a dessert, but also with tomatoes, feta, turkey, spinach as a light meal or tithe. In Japan, it is glazed with sugar or filled with chocolate and usually sold in bakeries. No matter how you eat it, it is certain that the croissant is very tasty and is considered worldwide a food that millions of people around the world enjoy every day.

4. Souvlaki - Greece

How could Greece and the souvlaki be missing from this list! The souvlaki is known from the time of Aristophanes, Xenophon and Aristotle, which makes it the oldest dish on the list. The souvlaki consists of small pieces of pork usually, accompanied by tomatoes, potatoes, onions and tzatziki, all wrapped in a pie. The most common filling is that of pork gyros, which is very fragrant and well cooked, while in any other country if you try souvlaki it will never be the same as what we make in Greece.

3. Hamburgers - Origin: Germany, Promotion: America

The word hamburger may have originated in Hamburg, Germany's second largest city, and generally its history travels back to 15th century Europe, however, hamburgers have emerged as a dish in America.

It is usually made from good quality beef that is served on round buns with various side dishes, such as tomatoes, cheese, onions, pickles and various sauces and is the most common American food in fast food restaurants. An essential addition to the dish is a large portion of french fries!

2.Pizza - Italy

Italy's national food and a favorite food of many people in the world, pizza, could not but be in second place. The funny thing is that if you want to try a really good pizza you will not go to Italy, as it is said that Italian pizzas are very special and far from the tastes of most. On the contrary, Greeks and Americans are now famous for the best pizzas, but again all this is subjective, because the taste is personal.

It is the accompaniment to many dishes in the world, it is the main ingredient in some others, however, by themselves the french fries have their own course and value in the cuisines of the world. Perhaps what most people do not know is that they come from Belgium and not from France as we think because of their name in English (French fries). In Western culture, french fries are the king of fast food and a popular and delicious food that few can resist, as very few people in the world do not lick hot and steamy french fries when they see them in front of them.
