BMW has officially unveiled the X4, its new Sport Activity Coupe that will face the equally new Porsche Macan and Range Rover Evoque.

We first got a taste of the X4 in April 2013, when the German company released the first photos of the X4 Concept. Of course, the production model has a more conventional design. It is based on the X3 and uses the sportif design philosophy of the X6. A feature of the exterior of the new X4 is the aggressive front with the imposing grille and large air intakes in the bumper while just below the headlights are the special fog lights.

Further back, the roof reaches its maximum height just above the driver and from that point onwards "mimics the design language of a classic sport coupe" leaning down. Outdoor highlights include L-shaped LED taillights and a pseudo-diffuser. Overall, the X4 is 14 millimeters longer and 36 millimeters lower than the X3.

The passenger cabin is a classic BMW. Simple lines, quality materials and some details to break the monotony. The driver sits 20mm lower than the X3 (sporty) while the rear seats fold 40:20:40 and when they do, the luggage compartment capacity drops to 1.400 liters (practical).

To drive the X4, prospective buyers will have to choose between some very good BMW engines (three petrol and three diesel). At the top of the range is the xDrive35i with the 3-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder in series delivering 306 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The 100km / h from standstill comes in 5.5 seconds and the consumption is 10.7 / 6.9 / 8.3 (urban / intercity / mixed). Equally impressive is the xDrive35d. The 3-liter turbodiesel delivers 313 horsepower and 630 Nm of torque. 100Km / h comes in 5.2 seconds and consumption is 6.7 / 5.5 / 6.0. A detuned version, the xDrive30d with 258 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque, is also available. Finally, the xDrive20d with the two-liter turbo diesel produces 190 horsepower and 400Nm of torque consuming 5.8 / 5.1 / 5.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers as well as the two-liter TwinPower Turbo petrol engine with 184 (xDrive20i) or 245 horsepower (xDrive28i).

Also available on the X4 will be BMW's ConnectedDrive system, which, among many other security systems, includes a head-up display, Collision Warning System and extra ConnectedDrive Services. Production of the X4 will begin next spring while its price has not yet been announced for Greece. You can find more details in this PDF, as well as in the press release that follows.
