The Italian Parliament's productive activities committee calls on the government of Mario Draghi to give a new impetus to the plan for the construction of the EastMed gas pipeline.
Pro-government parties and Italy's ultra-conservative Brotherhood party voted in favor of the proposal, which was on the agenda.
According to the Italian press, "the whole plan seems ready to go into implementation", while the Israeli embassy in Italy stated in the newspaper Il Messaggero, "all the countries that want to take part in this effort are waiting, now, the results of the technical study, within 2022 ".
What Draghi was saying
It is noted that a few days ago the Italian Prime Minister had mentioned EastMed, as Italy - like the rest of Europe - is trying to get rid of Russian gas imports as soon as possible.
"There is another case, this EastMed gas pipeline," he said on March 31.
"The European Commission will study the feasibility of the pipeline," he said.
Italy seems to be finally pushing for the restart of this pipeline that is capable of transporting natural gas to Europe via the route Israel, Cyprus, Greece, Italy.
