It is the collective responsibility of the 27 EU member states to turn their strong concern about the Gaza Strip into concrete actions by finding effective solutions, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said at the extraordinary online meeting of the EU's Foreign Affairs Council, while noting that the initiative of Nicosia for a humanitarian corridor does not operate in competition with others and that those partners who wish to can participate in it.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is broadcast by the GTP, Mr. Kombos participated in the extraordinary online meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union (EU) on the situation in the Middle East that took place late yesterday afternoon.
"In his intervention in the context of the debate, Mr. Kombos referred to the situation as it has developed in the Middle East after the October 7 terrorist attack by Hamas in Israel, reiterating that the release of all hostages is key," it states.
At the same time, it is added, "the Minister of Foreign Affairs referred to the need for humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip, adding that it is the collective responsibility of the "27" to turn their intense concern into concrete actions by finding effective solutions."
In this context, the announcement continues, the Minister of Foreign Affairs referred to the contacts he had recently with his counterparts in the region, focusing on the initiative of the Republic of Cyprus to create a maritime humanitarian corridor to Gaza.
He underlined, it is noted, "that this initiative is based on addressing the security parameters of the key stakeholders in all its phases, pointing out that this is precisely why the initiative has received a positive response from Israel and we are able to move forward with the technical processing of its parameters".
