The Cyprus Bird Association identifies positives and negatives in bird trapping in Cyprus.

As the Association announced on Monday, the latest report of the Bird Association for the autumn trapping of birds shows a positive and continuous decrease in the trapping in Cyprus, noting at the same time that this is a welcome progress, with the worrying difference that in the British Bases in the Republic increased.

Furthermore, the Bird Association states that the increase in net trapping recorded in the Republic in the fall of 2018 and the use of rodents also remains a widespread problem, the Association continues, adding that an estimated 335.000 birds were killed throughout Cyprus. .

He also reports that the analysis of field data for autumn 2018 showed a 90% reduction in the levels of net trapping in the research area compared to 2002.

The Cyprus Bird Association believes that the positive results of autumn 2018 are mainly due to the new, multifaceted approach of the British Bases to address the problem within their jurisdiction.

The Association states that it recognizes the efforts of the competent authorities of the Republic to combat the phenomenon, including the imposition of deterrently high fines, and notes that this year's increase in trapping levels in the Republic not only warns of the dynamic nature of the culture of trapping in Cyprus. reminds us that the problem has not yet been solved.

The Cyprus Bird Association urges the competent authorities of the Republic of Cyprus to intensify their efforts and adopt an approach similar to that of the Base Police, in order to contribute to progress and maintain low levels of trapping throughout the island.
