A 17-year-old woman refused chemotherapy and died - Her parents were convicted

The story of Eleonora Botaro

Eleonora Botaro's parents were sentenced to two years in prison on the charge of complicity - consent. The reason is that in 2015 Eleonora refused to undergo chemotherapy, when at the age of 17 she was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia.

The young girl who lived in Padua, Italy had the consent of her parents, Lino and Rita Botaro, followers of the Hamer method to follow the alternative treatment with vitamins and cortisone. Within a few months, the young woman — who could have been saved — succumbed to her illness. In the first place, her parents were acquitted.

According to Assistant Prosecutor Valeria Sanjari, who had immediately prosecuted the couple for intentional homicide, given the predictability of the outcome, the girl was never able to choose this method of treatment, as she lived in an overprotected and "directed" environment.

As her mother said after the announcement of the court decision, "I believe in the justice of God, I have not made a mistake, and if I had to I would do what I did again. "Only God knows how much my daughter suffered."
