Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has said that regime change in Iran is not a policy that Britain should pursue and that any change does not necessarily mean that it would be for the better.

Johnson made the remarks in parliament when asked if he thought John Bolton, the US National Security Adviser, was seeking regime change in Tehran.

"I must tell you that I do not believe that regime change in Tehran is the goal we must pursue," Johnson said.

"A regime change may be achieved at some point in the near future, but I can not say with any certainty that it would be a change for the better because it seems just as reasonable to imagine that Qassem Soleimani of the IRGC (Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps) he would be in a very good position to succeed Ayatollah Khamenei, for example.
