The composition of the new Italian government is expected to be presented to President Sergio Matarella by caretaker Prime Minister Carlo Cotarelli, following the order he gave and the failure of Giuseppe Conte to form a government. However, this fact is not expected to solve the political crisis that broke out in Italy.
The new government is considered to have absolutely no chance of securing a vote of confidence from parliament, as the parliament is dominated by Eurosceptic populists and the country could lead to new elections.
Markets are affected
Carlo Cotarelli's name was not enough to curb distrust of the Italian economy.
The so-called spread, the difference between the yields of ten-year bonds of the Italian and German government, reached 303 points at the end of the day (+68), while the Milan stock exchange closed with a new fall of 2,65%, affecting the European markets.
Amid the tension, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker assured that the financial markets could not and should not dictate the Italian vote.
The ballot boxes are likely to be set up again in July.
