Beijing "respects the right of the Afghan people to decide their own destiny and future," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters.

"The Taliban have repeatedly expressed the hope of developing good relations with China," she added. A spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Chinese embassy in Kabul 'continues to operate normally'.

China, which repatriated 210 Afghans in early July, has called on the new authorities to ensure the safety of those who remain there.

The Chinese government has marked the last few weeks "Irresponsible" American withdrawal from Afghanistan, fearing above all a civil war in her neighboring country.

To address the risk of chaos in Afghanistan, the Chinese government began talks with the Taliban in September 2019 and a delegation had been received in China at the time.

The last official meeting in the country is at the end of July.

The second in the Taliban hierarchy, the mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

China also included Afghanistan in its grand infrastructure project "New Silk Roads" in 2016. However, in the absence of security, Chinese investment remains low: $ 4,4 million in 2020, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
