UN General Assembly: 128 countries say "no" to Trump decision on Jerusalem

At the UN General Assembly meeting, 128 countries rejected the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Contrary to US President Donald Trump's threats, 128 member states voted in favor of the plan and 9 against, while 35 voted against.

Cyprus, like Greece, voted in favor of the draft decision at the General Assembly.

The meeting voted on a draft resolution condemning Washington's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital in the wake of US President Donald Trump's threats against member states that would vote in favor.

At the heart of the vote, which is being held on the initiative of the Palestinians, is a text stating that a unilateral decision on the status of Jerusalem "has no legal force" and that the issue of Jerusalem should be included in the final peace agreement to be reached. achieved between Israelis and Palestinians.

Abbas: "a victory for Palestine" 

A spokesman for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the UN General Assembly's adoption of a draft resolution calling on the United States to rescind its decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
 
"This vote is a victory for Palestine," said Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina. 
 
"We will continue our efforts at the UN and in all international fora to end this occupation and to establish our Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital," he added. 

Israel "will never be expelled from Jerusalem," Israeli ambassador to UN says

Israel's ambassador to the United Nations told the General Assembly today that his country "will never be expelled from Jerusalem" during a meeting on the draft resolution condemning the United States for recognizing the Holy City as the capital of the Jewish state.

"No draft resolution of the General Assembly will expel us from Jerusalem," Danny Danon said in front of the other member states shortly before the vote on the text, which is expected to be approved by a large majority, was not binding.

Washington's threats to the countries that will vote in favor of the draft resolution condemning the unilateral recognition of Jerusalem by the USA as the capital of Israel, were re-launched today by the American ambassador to the UN Nicki Haley at the UN General Assembly.

"The United States will remember this day, which they saw being ousted by the General Assembly solely for the exercise of our sovereign right," Hailey said shortly before the vote.

"We will remember it when we are asked once again to make the greatest (financial) contribution to the United Nations," he said.
