"Let 2022 be a year of recovery for all", the people, the planet, prosperity, in order for humanity to overcome the trials it faces, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres proposes in his New Year message.

In particular, he stressed the need to recover from the pandemic "with a bold plan to vaccinate the whole world everywhere" and economies "with the richest countries supporting the developing world with financing, investment and debt relief."

"Recovery from a lack of trust and division with a new emphasis on science, data and logic. "Recovering from conflicts with a renewed spirit of dialogue, compromise and recovery for the planet, with climate commitments commensurate with the magnitude and urgency of the crisis," he added.

Focusing on the trials facing humanity, "moral and real life trials", as the Secretary-General notes, he refers to poverty, the unequal distribution of vaccines for COVID 19, unfulfilled climate commitments, ongoing conflicts, division and misinformation.

"The world welcomes 2022 with our hopes for the future being tested: From growing poverty and growing inequalities. From the unequal distribution of vaccines for COVID 19. From unfulfilled climate commitments. "From the ongoing conflicts, the division and the misinformation", points out Antonio Guterres.

In this context, Mr. Guterres emphasizes that the time of great difficulty is also the time of great opportunity, to unite in solidarity. "To unite behind solutions that exist for everyone. "To move forward - together - with hope for what our family can accomplish." Concluding his message, the UN Secretary General wished everyone a happy and peaceful New Year.
