Chaos erupted on Tuesday at the headquarters of YouTube in California, where a woman opened fire, causing the panicked exit of the workers and the mass mobilization of the police, before the suspect was found dead, with the police clarifying that she probably committed suicide.

"We have four victims. They were all taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. We have a person who died from injuries he caused himself. And at the moment, we believe that he is the person who opened fire, "said Ed Barberini, the police chief in the city of San Bruno, where the tragic events took place.

According to a testimony broadcast by CNN, the woman broke into lunch and started shooting. He seemed to be aiming for "one person in particular".

Few of the gun attacks in the United States are committed by women.

The police started to be informed about the first calls to the emergency number 911 at 12:46 local time (22:46 Greek time).

One of the three victims, a 36-year-old man, is in critical condition.

YouTube employees said panic ensued as almost everyone started running to the exits of the company's headquarters near San Francisco when the shots were heard. An official said he saw blood on the floor.

Police have not given further details about the suspect officially, nor have they made any case about her motives.

In addition to the 36-year-old who is in critical condition, the other two victims are two women, a 32-year-old in serious condition and a 27-year-old whose life is not in danger. Authorities have not released the details of the victims.

Local television networks broadcast footage of YouTube employees leaving the building with their arms outstretched.

Google said it was coordinating with the authorities.

US President Donald Trump said on Twitter that he had been informed of the incident.

Last month, YouTube announced that it would ban posting of content that promotes gun sales and accessories, as well as share videos with registered users that teach how to make weapons.

The issue of gun ownership continues to divide the US public, especially after the massacre that took place in a high school in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, when 17 students and teachers were killed by the fire of a teenager. More than 1,5 million people took part in the March 24 "March for Our Lives" in the country to demand tighter gun control. The protests in the United States since the February massacre have been the largest in two decades.
