Shootings at the courthouse in Istanbul – The two perpetrators are dead (BINTEO)
Five people were injured, including 3 policemen
An armed attack took place on Tuesday morning (6.2.2024) outside the Istanbul courthouse, while the alleged attackers were neutralized by police fire.
The Turkish Interior Minister announced that five people were injured in the shooting.
The entrances and exits of the courthouse were closed, while police and ambulances rushed to the scene.
Interior Minister Ali Gerlikaya stated: "Today at 11:46 p.m. an attack was attempted on the checkpoint in front of Gate C of Istanbul's Çağlayan Courthouse. There were two perpetrators, a woman and a man, who are dead. 5 people were injured, including 3 police officers."
Panic prevailed at the scene, while those who heard the shots fell to the ground. The injured were taken to hospital by ambulance.
Already, Istanbul's chief prosecutor and deputy chief prosecutors are examining the scene.
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc condemned the armed attack and thanked "the heroic police officers who prevented the treacherous attack and neutralized the two suspects. I wish a speedy recovery to our police officers and the civilians injured in the attack. The judicial investigation initiated by our Istanbul Prosecutor's Office into the incident continues in many directions."
