An armed teacher at a high school in Georgia drummed into a school leave room and fired when the school principal tried to open the door, police said, adding that there were no serious injuries.

The incident happened at lunchtime at Dalton High School, about 145km north of Atlanta, the capital of the state of Georgia, two weeks after the massacre of 17 high school students and teachers at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in the neighboring state of Florentine. Donald Trump to arm the teaching staff in order not to repeat similar massacres.

Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frasier told reporters that when police arrived at the school, they found the teacher huddled inside a school room and arrested him about 30 to 45 minutes later, without the slightest incident.

The incident started when a group of students tried to enter the room and "the teacher did not allow anyone to enter", Fraser noted.

When the manager arrived and tried to open the door with a key, then only one shot was heard from inside the room.

According to reports, a girl was injured in the ankle, running into the pandemonium that followed.

Fraser said there was no immediate explanation for the cause of the incident and declined to say whether he thought it was a suicide attempt. "This teacher obviously did not want to involve students in this incident in any way," he said.

He added that it was not clear whether students were previously in the room with the teacher while he was armed with the revolver.

The high school students, who have about 2.000 enrolled, were taken to a nearby conference center, according to authorities.

"It's really serious, after so many things have happened across the country," student Ricardo Perez told WTVC-TV after the incident.

"I am shocked, I can not believe it. "I thought it was a dream," he said.
