India: They found no alcohol and drank an alcoholic disinfectant gel

According to Siddhartha Kausal, the police chief of the city of Kuricento in Andhra Pradesh, the nine men lost consciousness after consuming "a large amount" of hand sanitizer mixed with water or soda. They were rushed to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The reason they turned to alcoholic disinfectant as a "substitute" is that the city has been quarantined and so they could not buy drinks.

Hundreds of people die every year in India after consuming adulterated alcohol. Smugglers often add methanol to drinks - a toxic product commonly used as an antifreeze or fuel - to increase their alcohol content.

To this day, from her pandemic Covid-19 more than 35.740 people have died in India.
