The first results of the count confirm the exit polls that show an overwhelming victory of "Yes" in the legalization of abortions in Ireland, said today an MP.
"I would say exit polls were very accurate," Kevin Humphreys of the opposition Labor Party told Reuters, referring to two exit polls in Ireland that put the percentage between 68 and 69% of voters voted to repeal the 8th amendment to the Constitution banning abortions.
Humphreys also added that these first results show that the "Yes" percentage in the Dublin constituency will rise to about 80%. The two exit polls showed that Dublin would have the highest "Yes" vote in all of Ireland's constituencies, at around 78%.
The region voted against abortion in a 1983 referendum.
