Spain: 50.000 liters of red wine spilled due to a tank failure

A malfunction at a wine storage facility in southeastern Spain has caused a torrent of red wine, which in turn has created a lake!

Tens of thousands of bottles were lost, with attendees recording the disaster and wine lovers on social media falling into melancholy from the shots.

The leak is estimated to have lost about 50.000 liters, according to local media.

Wineries in Villamalea and elsewhere are in the middle of the harvest season, which means that workers are busy picking fresh grapes and preparing them for primary fermentation.

Although the spectacle is sad, the scenes are not entirely new. In January, 367.000 gallons of cabernet sauvignon were dumped into a California river after a tank leaked into a Sonoma County vineyard.
