Italy: Forty-eight arrests in Calabria mafia operation

Forty-eight people were arrested early this morning in an operation by Italian police, carabinieri and financial police Guardia di Finanza, against the Calabrian mafia, Drageta.

The detainees are accused, among others, of mafia activity, money laundering, illegal transfer of funds and illegal carrying of weapons. The Italian prosecutors of the city of Reggio Calabria also ordered the seizure of material goods worth twenty-five million euros.

The whole operation was called Terramara Closed and raids were carried out in many regions of the country, not only in Lower Italy. All those arrested are accused of "using the mafia method", which according to the Italian penal code is considered an additional aggravating factor.
