The Catalan parliament announced today that it supports the right of former Catalan President Carles Puigdemon to take over the leadership of this region again, while waiting for the decision of the German court whether to extradite him to Spain.
Pujdemon's arrest last Sunday could exacerbate the crisis that erupted last year, when Catalonia unilaterally declared independence, forcing Madrid to oust the Catalan government and take over the region itself.
The purely symbolic declaration of the Catalan parliament, controlled by the separatists, shows how powerless the pro-independence parties have become, as the noose around their leaders tightens: almost everyone is either in exile or in prison.
