China and Russia will jointly build a cable car that will cross the river that separates the two countries in an effort to promote tourism and facilitate border crossings between the two countries, a Chinese investor told Xinhua.

The cable car will cross the Heilongjiang River, known in Russia as the Amur River, which connects the northeastern province of Heihe with Russia's Blagoveshchensk, and will be the first cross-border cable car to carry passengers from the two countries.

With an investment of 799 million yuan ($ 120 million) from the Chinese side, the construction of the cable car is expected to begin in the spring of 2018.

"The cable car will make it easier to cross the border between the two countries and will also be a tourist attraction on the river," said Li Bo, deputy director of customs in Heihe. Ε

Also under construction is a road bridge between the two cities which is expected to be put into operation in October 2019.
