The EU has no plans to open new chapters in Turkey's accession talks, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini told reporters in Strasbourg following the release of the progress report.

"Since the state of emergency, more than 150.000 people have been detained, 78.000 arrested and more than 110.000 civil servants fired, and according to authorities, about 40.000 have been rehabilitated, of which about 3.600 by decree," the report said.

"Turkey must lift the state of emergency without delay, while the constitutional referendum in Turkey has raised serious concerns about the overall negative effects of the state of emergency and undermined the integrity of the elections," it added. […] "Serious violations of freedom of expression continued. "There has been no progress in the fight against corruption."

"Tensions in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean have not favored good neighborly relations and have undermined regional stability and security. Bilateral relations with several EU member states have deteriorated, sometimes with aggressive and unacceptable rhetoric. "Turkey must make a firm commitment to good neighborly relations, international agreements and the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with the United Nations Charter, possibly appealing to the International Court of Justice," he said.
