The Turkish Armed Forces announced on Friday that airstrikes, launching their planes in the mountainous region of Qadil in northern Iraq on Tuesday (June 12th), had killed 26 members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The PKK, which has been waging a guerrilla war against the Turkish state in the southeastern part of the country since 1984, is based in the Qandil region. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently said he would "dry up" Kandil's "terrorist swamp".
