The Titanic will be extinct by 2030

The emblematic ship will have completely disappeared by 2030, scientists predict.

It sank in 1912 and has been at the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean ever since. But experts warn that the Titanic will not be in place forever. They even estimate that after 2030 there will not be a single sample from the historic hull.

The cause of his possible disappearance, however, seems to be specific bacteria that feed on him. The microbe responsible is Halomonas titanicae, which grew in the wild waters of the Atlantic Ocean, "eating" the Titanic for decades. The bacterium's favorite food, according to scientists, is iron. The Titanic was built with 50.000 tons of metal and is not the only one threatened with extinction, as the bacterium eats other metal structures in the ocean such as oil rigs.
