The Kremlin has denounced NATO as a "Cold War product" whose aim is to "confront" Russia, while reiterating that it does not want to interfere in what will be discussed at the Alliance Summit in Brussels.

Leaders of NATO member states at the upcoming NATO Summit in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday are worried that they will come under pressure from US President Donald Trump, who is demanding the sharing of the Alliance's financial burden.

"The differences between them do not concern us. Our relationship with NATO is well known. "This alliance is a product of the Cold War and the controversy that existed at the time," Peshkov said.

The Russian official also said that what the Alliance has done so far - to expand to Russia's borders and develop military infrastructure near Russian territory - always confirms the essence of this alliance. He added, however, that Russia still maintains "fairly mediocre contacts" with NATO.
