First death from the Omicron variant in the United Kingdom

Earlier, Health Minister Sajid Javid had said that there were "about ten" Omicron patients in England.

The first death of a vector of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in the United Kingdom has been confirmed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Visiting a vaccination center in west London on Monday morning, Mr Johnson said: "Unfortunately yes, Omicron is producing treatments and unfortunately at least one patient has been confirmed to have died from Omicron."

"So I think the idea that this is somehow a milder version of this virus, I think this is something we have to put aside and just acknowledge the great pace at which (the spread) is accelerating among the population. "So the best thing we can do is to do all the boosting," added Boris Johnson.
