We asked a lawyer what we would like to know about gynecology

How can the term feminism practically help women?

A few days before we leave behind us in 2021, we count 16 murders in Greece. Is there a need for a new legal term? How can the term feminism practically help women? What exactly is true if one confesses to the murder of one's wife? We asked Petrini Naidou, a lawyer, what we needed to form an opinion.

As a lawyer, what do you say to those who find it unnecessary to use the term genocide?

The use of more descriptive terms, variants of homicide is not new to the general public. We are, for example, familiar with the specificity of the concept of matricide, patricide, pedophilia or conjugation. These concepts are not legal, either, but there is no talk of using them or not. They do not "bother".

The rich and self-explanatory Greek language accurately describes what has happened, describing in the above examples the victim-perpetrator relationship.

The term homicide, however, describes a homicide with a victim simply because of his or her gender, because of his position in society. In any case, legally, we are talking about homicide and that in itself is enough and clear. This is the reasonable argument of those who react to the use of the term. However, in my view the legal from the social use of the term must be distinguished because the latter has other important functions to perform.

Has anything changed in the legal system in relation to gynecology?

Not right now and it's definitely not the first or necessary step. Nowhere should killing a person of one sex mean that you have committed a greater crime than killing a person of another sex. Human life is of one value, non-negotiable and equal. In this sense it is not a legal issue or it is not primarily legal whether we will use the term, we can do it without reserving a special mention in the law, if it is not necessary.

We are familiar with the specificity of the concept of matricide, patricide, pedophilia or conjugation. These concepts are not legal, either, but there is no talk of using them or not.

It is, of course, a fact that legislative work and social data are intertwined and feed on each other, legislation is a living process. The legislator usually follows society but is often called upon to raise it to a ladder that it is not yet ready to stand, to educate it (see cohabitation agreement, same-sex marriage).

The issue here is primarily social and educational. Gynecology is a term that, unlike the above examples, does not define the perpetrator-victim relationship but the victim's place in society. The term is used to awaken us to our indirect tolerance of a "hidden carpet" phenomenon in Western society in which women vote, work, become corporate directors and party leaders, but….

How can the specificity of the term gynecology help women in practice?

The use of the term is of immense value and necessary for public debate and society. The discussion, communication, awakening of society is capital, because the victim is in this position because of his gender. It is important to exist and to replace the journalistic dangerous missteps of the use of terms such as "passion crime".

The meaning given here is that the offense is committed with a necessary and capable condition the position of the other person, that she is a woman. Therefore, everyone else who is in the position of the victim only for what he is, is a victim of a more specific man-murder. The world religious history is abounding, as well as the modern history of such killers from all sides.

The relative warfare towards the term is in my opinion as ineffective as the answer "All lives matter" to the "Black lives matter" movement. Clearly all lives have equal value, which is why society reacts and illuminates the phenomena of devaluation of some lives based on who are social (gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, political beliefs). What Greek society is saying now, after this year, is Women's Lives Matter.

"What Greek society is saying now, after this year, is Women's Lives Matter."

What exactly is true if one confesses to the murder of one's wife? What is the difference between the police and the police?

Any offense for which the perpetrator appears to have genuine remorse is dealt with with the possible use of mitigating circumstances.

He seeks the reduction of his sentence. But what the perpetrators' immediate 'self-surrender' is mainly trying to achieve is to create a climate in which the energy of the activist was completely out of purpose and is something that was caused by an intense moment that "crossed the line" of logic and self-control. , "In boiling" and as soon as he returned to reasonable operation he was shocked by the evil he was able to cause.

Repentance and unintentional - unintentional, his action, therefore, seeks to secure him a shorter sentence. However, the lawyers and prosecutors who study each such unique case and the judges who will judge it have experience and knowledge of both the law and human behavior.
