Former Romanian King Michael has died in Switzerland today at the age of 96, the royal family said on Digi 24 television.
Former King Michael of Romania retired from public life due to illness in 2016.
A cousin of Britain's Queen Elizabeth, Michael was forced to abdicate in 1947 following the rise of communism in Romania after World War II and lived in exile in the West for decades. He had undergone surgery for leukemia and cancer.
