The Mexican Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that in the past 24 hours it recorded 708 additional deaths due to COVID-19 and 4.883 confirmed cases of infection by SARS-CoV-2 - a number which is a sad new record - with the coronavirus pandemic toll reaching 15.357 deaths out of a total of 129.184 infections.

Government officials in the 127 million-strong population point out that the actual number of cases of infection is much higher than those officially diagnosed. Undersecretary of Health Hugo Lopez-Gatel predicted an acceleration of the spread of the pandemic in the near future.

11 cases and four asymptomatic in the last 24 hours

The National Health Committee announced today that it was informed by midnight yesterday Wednesday about 11 cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection in 24 hours in mainland China, clarifying that everything was "imported", according to Beijing's terminology when it comes to locating people who have been infected among travelers arriving in Chinese territory from abroad.

In addition, 4 cases of asymptomatic carriers were identified, according to the Chinese Ministry of Health.

The previous day, Chinese authorities announced the detection of 3 new confirmed cases of infection and 5 asymptomatic carriers of the new colon.

The Chinese authorities do not include asymptomatic carriers in the confirmed cases.

Four patients have been discharged from hospitals, where 62 patients with COVID-19.
