A strong earthquake of 7 Richter hit at 19:29 (Greek time) on Friday 30/11 the Anchorage and shook the buildings of the city, with the authorities issuing a tsunami warning in the southern part of Alaska.
The epicenter was reported 13 km south of the city of 300.000, with a depth of 41 km. The quake caused severe damage, but fortunately no casualties were reported. After almost three hours, a tsunami alert was issued.
"No tsunami alert was issued and no tsunami alert was issued for the west coast of the United States, British Columbia (Canada) or Alaska," said the U.S. Meteorological Agency, which issued a tsunami alert.
The strong earthquake caused severe damage to roads, bridges and water pipes, said US Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke. Pictures on social media and on television networks show streets having been opened in both and buildings with cracks. No injuries have been reported so far.
