At least 32 people were killed and 66 injured today in a collision between two trains north of the Egyptian city of Sohagg, according to NILE TV.
Health authorities have sent 36 ambulances to the area and the injured are being treated at local hospitals, the health ministry said in a statement.
Photos posted on local media show derailed train cars over a canal of water.
"The trains collided without moving at high speed, destroying two of their carriages and overturning a third," a security source told Reuters.
Egypt has one of the oldest and largest railway networks in the region and accidents are frequent.
