He recited lyrics of the song, including the controversial attack
Once again, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is provoking by following his well-known nationalist rhetoric. During a speech in Izmir, the Turkish president referred to a folk song by Muharrem Ertas "that talks about the occupation of Smyrna. "Look at the feelings that those dark days of occupation created in our people."
Among other things, in this song is heard the verse "I will throw the Greeks into the sea" which was reproduced by Erdogan in his speech in Smyrna, in view of the upcoming municipal elections.
"Beautiful Smyrna, the smoke does not leave you. The day in my imagination, the night in my thinking. Bend down mountains to cross to my homeland. Make it easy for my army to pass. The fox can not get into the lion's bed, and if it does, it can not pick the rose buds. The vile Greek can not achieve his goals. "They say do not pass, I will pass to Izmir… I will throw the Greeks into the sea", said Erdogan.
