At the age of 83, the Greek-American professor, writer, poet, historian, scholar and activist Dan Georgakas passed away, spreading grief to his family and to the entire Greek-American community.
Dan Georgakas was born on March 1, 1938, in Detroit, USA and was the director of the Greek-American Studies Program at the Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at Queens College.
His memoirs "My Detroit: Growing Up Greek and American in Motor City" are a treasure trove of Greek-American history. Most of his work is housed in the Walter P. Reuther Library, Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs at Wayne State University.
