At least two people were killed after a train collided with a truck in Italy

Two people were killed and 18 were injured when a train collided with a truck that stopped on the tracks near the northern Italian city of Turin, officials said.

One of the dead was a train engineer who boarded the truck near the town of Caluso, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

The train was running from Turin to the city of Ivrea.

One of the two critically injured died later at the hospital after being evacuated from the crash site by helicopter.

According to ambulance officials, a total of 18 people were injured after the tragic accident.

The driver of the truck was not injured, according to the Italian news agency, which said the vehicle was carrying Lithuanian license plates and was heading to a nearby warehouse.

The conditions under which the truck had crossed the dam and ended up on the rails are being investigated.
