In a statement, Donald Trump said he had asked the US government spokesman for international trade to draw up a list of Chinese products to which the new tariffs would be imposed.

"Once the legal process is completed, these tariffs will take effect if China refuses to change its practices, and also if it insists on implementing the new tariffs it recently announced."

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said today that China will react by taking "qualitative" and "quantitative" measures if the US government publishes a new list of Chinese products that will be subject to tariffs.
He notes that he will take measures and "strongly reciprocate" any new duties.
"If the US loses common sense and publishes a list, China will have to take a combination of quantitative and qualitative measures in retaliation."
