President Donald Trump said yesterday that a vaccine against the deadly coronavirus could be three or four weeks away, downgrading the predictions of US health officials and pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc. earlier this month.
Speaking at an ABC News event in Philadelphia, Trump defended his government 's management of the coronavirus crisis, saying the vaccine would be distributed soon. "We are very close to having a vaccine," he said.
"If you want to know the truth, it would probably take years for the previous government to have a vaccine, because of the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and all the approvals.
We are between weeks to have it. "You know, it could be three or four weeks," he said.
