In fact, according to a new research, it is the most expensive destination in the world to live in. According to research published by Ceoworld Magazine and according to Lonely Planet, nine of the top 20 countries in terms of cost of living are European.

The survey took into account the cost of living, rents, grocery prices, food costs and purchasing power. The data was then added to an index, with New York being used as a basis for comparisons.
Switzerland topped the list, followed by Norway, Iceland, Japan, Denmark, the Bahamas, Luxembourg, Israel, Singapore and South Korea. Cyprus is in 36th place, just above Greece, which was in 38th place in the ranking, between Jamaica and Zimbabwe.
Five countries in the top 20 were Asian, while one was from Latin America, one from Africa, two from the Caribbean and two from Oceania.
The cheapest countries to live in, according to the survey, are Pakistan, followed by Afghanistan, India, Syria and Uzbekistan.
Ceoworld magazine has collected data from various studies, consumer price indices, cost of living data and international media. The range of living expenses focused on bills, transportation, clothing and accommodation.
