The Official Gazette of the Republic published the Decree of the Minister of Health, which regulates the decision for leave of absence for employees who are vaccinated with a booster dose.

It is noted that The leave is granted for the entire day of the vaccination and employees must provide their employer with a copy of the Vaccination Card for confirmation. The decision concerns employees of the public, wider public and private sector.

It is reminded that Employees may be absent from work on the 1st and 2nd installment vaccination days, again without the days being cut off from their annual leave and earnings. A similar rule applies to parents accompanying their minor child for vaccination, provided that they provide their employer with a copy of the child's Vaccination Card for confirmation purposes.

The decree in detail

The Minister of Health, exercising the powers given to him by Article 6 (a), (b), (c), (d), (e) and (g) of the Law on Infectious Diseases, Chapter 260 and which were assigned to him by the Decision of the Council of Ministers dated 2 September 2021, issues the following Decree:

Because, the protection of public health and the health care system are the responsibility of the Republic and due to the urgent need arising from the epidemiological data in order to limit the spread of Coronavirus disease COVID-19, the protection of public health, but also the prevention of possible collapse of the health system from the spread of the virus, taking into account the requirements in human resources and logistics that will be necessary to deal with the rapid spread of the virus and because it is necessary to take measures, and because with a Notification published in the Official Gazette of the Republic, following the authorization of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Health declared as infected local areas with Koronovirus COVID-19 pursuant to article 4 of the Law on Dehydration, Chapter 260, the Provinces of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Famagusta and Paphos.

Because, given that by 3 November 2021, 82,3% of the adult population had received the first dose of the vaccine and 80% had completed the vaccination regimen, but at the same time, From October 27 to November 3, 2021, 1,253 cases were recorded, while the average number of patients treated daily is between 55 and 70 patients per day and given that during the above period 4 deaths of patients with a final cause of death of the disease were recorded. COVID-19, and that the rate of positive diagnostic tests for Coronavirus disease COVID-19, is close to 0,4%, the following Regulations are issued for the Provinces of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Famagusta and Paphos:

1. This Decree will be referred to as the Infection (Definition of Measures to Prevent the Spread of the Coronavirus) COVID-19) Decree (No. 41) of 2021.

2. Regulation 80 of the Infectious Diseases (Definition of Measures to Prevent the Spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19) Decree (No. 40) of 2021, is repealed and replaced by the following new Regulation 80: “80.

(a) All employees in the private, public, wider public sector, as well as in local authorities, may be absent from work throughout the day of their vaccination with the disease vaccine. It is understood that in the case of a two-dose vaccine this paragraph applies to both days of vaccination: It is further understood that this paragraph also applies to the day of vaccination of the third booster dose in the case of two-dose vaccines, and for the day of vaccination of the second booster dose, for single dose vaccines: It is further understood that this paragraph also applies in the case of a parent / legal guardian of a child under 18 years of age, provided that the parent / legal guardian accompanies his / her child for vaccination and provided that a certificate of vaccination of the child is provided,

(Β) all students aged 12 to 17 may be absent from school on the day of their immunization COVID-19, by granting a justified absence, without the days being deducted from the predetermined number of justified absences and provided that a vaccination certificate is presented:

It is understood that in the case of a two-dose vaccine, this paragraph applies to both days of vaccination.

3. This Decree shall enter into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic
