"The coercion he used in the issue of vaccinations is clearly not working, rather it brings the opposite results, creating tension and polarization in society."

AKEL issued an announcement regarding the abolition of free rapid tests from August 1st.

Through its announcement, it calls on the Government to reverse its decision, and to comply with the instructions of the World Health Organization.

Also, regarding vaccinations, he states that "The coercion he used in the issue of vaccinations is clearly not working, rather it brings the opposite results, creating tension and polarization in society."

The announcement of AKEL as it is

"The World Health Organization and the European Monitoring Center have issued a joint statement calling on European countries to increase their citizens' access to free trials, noting their forecast for an increase and more than doubling of new cases over the next four weeks.

In light of the above, we once again call on the government to reconsider and re-evaluate its decision to abolish free rapid tests and to align with the direction given by the WHO and the European Control Center.

This direction is added to a number of reasons why the Government is called to suspend its specific decision. Workers and vulnerable groups will not be able to cover the costs of conducting a rapid test, while the abolition of their free character will remove from our quiver a measure that can act preventively against the spread of the pandemic.

The current epidemiological picture must seriously concern the Government for the effectiveness of the way it is dealing with the situation. The coercion he used in the issue of vaccinations is clearly not working, rather it brings the opposite results, creating tension and polarization in society.

AKEL calls on the Government to immediately draw up a specific strategy on the issue of vaccinations in order to persuade and not to force, involving personal and specialist doctors, identifying the concerns of those who chose not to be vaccinated and responding to them convincingly and substantiated.
