In addition to the efforts made by the Police against burglary and theft in homes, below is a series of simple preventive measures that citizens can take to more effectively protect their property.

When we are away from home, we do not leave clues that betray our absence. We avoid any posting or notification on electronic social media, which may indicate where we are and betray that we are away from home.

We make sure that our house is well locked, having secured doors, windows and skylights and we do not leave the keys on the locks, not even on the inside of the door.

We do not leave exposed, or in insecure places, money, jewelry, important documents or other valuables, especially large sums of money. Regarding electronics and other devices or valuables that have a serial number of construction, we record their serial number, so that it is possible to locate and identify them in case of theft.

If there is an alarm system installed in our house or a closed monitoring circuit, we make sure that we have put it into operation, while we check at regular intervals that it has not suffered any damage that makes it out of order.

We work with people we trust, such as our parents or adult children, to have our home inspected at regular intervals when we are away.

In addition, as far as our vehicle is concerned, even in case of our short distance from it, we take all those measures that would prevent the theft of it or the theft of property from our vehicle, taking into account that the experts are lurking to steal our property. . We park our vehicle in supervised parking lots, as it is safer. We make sure that we have removed the vehicle keys, lock the doors and fully raise the windows of our vehicle. During the night it is better to park our vehicle in places where there is enough road lighting. Avoid dark or secluded spots.
If there is an anti-theft system installed in our vehicle, we make sure that it is activated and we regularly check that it works normally.

In general, the public is urged to be vigilant and to work closely with the Police and in case they find anything suspicious, such as persons or vehicles moving suspiciously, to immediately inform the local Police Station or to contact the Citizen Contact Line at 1460 or the emergency hotline at 112 and 199.
