The positivity rate appears to have stabilized at lower levels than recently and this shows that the virus activity in the community has decreased, said Dr. Maria Koliou, speaking on SIGMA's show "Mesimeri kai Kati".

Speaking about the Molnupiravir pill which arrived in Cyprus but also about the Pfizer one which is expected, he mentioned that these are valuable weapons that are being added to our quiver and which reduce the number of treatments.

He stressed, however, that any drug would never come to replace the vaccine.

Regarding the Omicron mutation and the increased hospitalization of children, Ms. Koliou said that now the vaccination coverage in children is at a low level and that is why it is much easier for such a contagious virus to infect them.

"Children are not particularly vulnerable to this virus," he explained.

He added that the incidents in the hospitals are not very serious, nor are there many children who have to take antiviral drugs, noting that last week three children were deemed necessary to take remedisivir.

Regarding the coexistence of COVID19 and the flu, he said that it has not been clarified how serious an issue they can create.
