Outbreak in Cyprus - Over 1.900 new cases and 2 dead

More than 900 cases were detected by tracking - 78 patients in serious condition

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 27 2021:

- 2 people died from the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 630.

- 161 patients COVID-19 of which 78 are in serious condition. 80,75% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 15 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in intubated condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

- A total of 121,127 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 1925 (positive rate: 1,59% new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases in 152,685.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The 2 people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

- A woman, aged 79, who ended up on December 27 in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.

- A man, 75 years old, who ended up on December 27 at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 630, of which:

402 men (63,8%), and

- 228 women (36,2%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 75,9 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 161 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 78 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 78 patients in serious condition, 27 are intubated, 4 are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 47 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 121,127 diagnoses made, 12,917 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 108,210 by the method of antigen rapid test, 1925 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 164 cases from 1,979 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 44 cases of 5,626 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 388 cases from 4,462 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 13 cases from 502 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 926 cases from 80,407 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 384 cases from 27,803 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
  • The cases from 6 samples received within the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
