Workshop for the development of practices in the agricultural sector

The research team of the Laboratory of Chemical Engineering and Sustainability Engineering of the Open University of Cyprus headed by Dr. Antonis Zorpa invites you to a workshop which is organized within the project "BalkanROAD".

The project is co-financed by the European Union and national resources of the participating countries, under the program "Balkan-Mediterranean 2014-2020".

The aim of the project is to develop tools, policies and practices for economic development of the agricultural sector and environmental protection.

The workshop is addressed to:

  • Farmers and owners of small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises employed mainly in the primary and secondary sectors of the economy
  • Regional authorities and agricultural policy makers.
  • Scientific and educational bodies

Thursday, April 4 5: 30-7: 30 pm on the 4th floor of the Central Administration building of the Open University of Cyprus.

Project duration: 2017-2019

Budget: € 1.284.723,15

Objectives:

  • Development of a Common Balkan Protocol for the production of agricultural products marked with a low environmental footprint.
  • Application of sustainable practices throughout the production line (from field to pre-purchase).
  • Development of a high-capacity, flexible and user-friendly software (ROAD software) that will record, calculate and evaluate the environmental footprint of marketable agricultural products.
  • Improving the rural environment of the Balkan countries and maintaining the sustainability of natural resources (soil, water, air).
  • Creation of educational material for academic and educational organizations focusing on young farmers, women and people with disabilities.

BalkanRoad has two directions, which will be combined and integrated in a Balkan Action Plan, which is expected to open new trade routes for Balkan agricultural products, strengthening the local and national economies of the Balkan countries.

In particular, through the program will be achieved:

  • Improving the Balkan agricultural environment through the development of strategies, methodologies and technologies for the protection of natural resources (soil, water, air), reduction of greenhouse gases, reduction of production and disposal of waste and promotion of recycling and reuse of waste and reuse in geo-waste.
